Kaleidoscopic water pitchers, mirrored in real life
Mirror Image is a brilliant project by Eindhoven grad Lotte van Wulfften Palthe where, based on the visuals created by a kaleidoscope, real objects are mirrored and reflected in three-dimensional space. The objects, mostly plastic jugs, retain their function (for the most part) even through the deformation of their shape beyond recognizability.
From Lotte:
Kaleidoscope…An object mirrored by reflection; will it deform, will it be differently interpreted or even illegible? Just like a face upside down that becomes almost unrecognizable. Or mirrored writings that become a new language. I asked myself whether a product could become a dissimilar product, with a differnt function, through reflection. Do objects—like words—have a ‘backwards’?
A fantastic concept and exploration, all around.

French design studio USIN-e just sent us images of Lisiere, a table mirror, produced in an edition of 50 for Granville Gallery. Other than the clear references to nameplates and men cards, little information about their project, only that it shows off the craft of mirror polishing, and that it can structure your desktop or liven up your table set. A 2mm sheet is folded in half either lengthwise or crosswise (hot dog or hamburger), then polished to a mirror sheen on the outside, and lacquered with red paint on the inside.
More images follow.
