Iowa Lake House by Min|Day Architects

2-2-09lakehouse1.jpgThis house on Iowa’s Lake Okoboji, designed by San Francisco and Nebraska-based Min|Day Architects, won two AIA Nebraska Awards: one for its overall design, and one for this amazing cabinet that doubles as a headboard. Designed to mirror ripples on the lake’s surface, the cabinet is made from stacked plywood that was cut using animation software…

2-2-09lakehouse3.jpg The exterior of the house is equally impressive. Wedged between a cluster of oak trees, the dom has views of the lake and woods. Slats on the exterior window frames shade the interior without covering up the glass. Constructed from Corten steel and wood cladding, the home’s modern design sits quietly on the site, preserves the trees around it, and makes the most of the amazing lake views. 2-2-09lakehouse2.jpg To read the AIA’s comments about the home, click here, and check out Min|Day Architects for more information about the project. If you’re going to be in Iowa this summer, the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is hosting a tour of the dom at the end of July. Photos: Min|Day. Found via Eye Candy.

chairq020209.JPGAngelina is looking for ideas: Hi AT, I bought this chair for $2.99 wanting to make a project out of it. The cushion can easily be reupholstered, but I don’t have any color/pattern/texture in mind. I’m not crazy about the finish on the rest of the chair and obviously it’s more worn in some places than others…

I’m considering spray-painting the chair all one color. Any ideas how I can spruce up the whole chair such as color combos and finishes/techniques? Thank you! Please share your suggestions for a DIY makeover on the chair to the comments below…

Hi, this is a greeble like script I am working on. It requires RickW’s offset.rb script to work. Its in a very beta phase right now, so I would recommend saving your model before running the script. I am re-inventing the wheel to some degree because Tig has made a random pushpull that works great and Jim also has a protrude script that is great and really much more functional than mine. Both are probably more stable than my script. I am really just writing this as an exercise in manipulating geometry through Ruby.

It will greeble everything, or you can select faces before hand and have it only greeble a selection. The options in the pop-up window are Min Height, Max Height, Offset, and “Offset face or Original Face”

1 and 2 are straightforward. They work in inches. so “12″ equals 1 foot or about 305mm.

3 is an option to offset each face. a negative value will inset the face, a positive value will make the offset be larger than the original face.

4 allows you to choose if the script push/pulls the newly created offset face, or if it push/pulls the other face (think of a square, and then offset a square inside the big square. You have two faces. The innermost face and the face around that. The innermost face is the new face, the outerface is the original face).
