China/Olympics/Architecture
I was reading the thread about the Bejing “nest” stadium recently and was kind of disapointed how the discussion about politics where stopped cold.
For me architectural practice is politics and every building has politics built inside.
I wonder how people put real enthusiasm into a project that smells like propaganda 100m against the wind.
In my mind it is wrong to let China host Olympic games at all.
Is it right to have a non democratic country host the games?
The summer games of 1936 where quite a Success for Germany too.
I am sure Herzog de Meuron will never ever work for Tibet…but shouldn`t all firms that built in china feel a little political pressure by western democratical countries?
Are they not big enough to pass on such a thing.
Would you have done it considering what China is and how it is threating its people?
All things that get too big have a bad taste to me…I am living in Vienna an I am quite sure I will not profit in any way by the Euro08.
Ok…I am aware this is not really a very good post but more some kind of antiglobalist rant…
anyways…I am sitting here and thinking some things should not be built.
